This week Roosevelt University achieved silver-level recognition under the Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Compact Program for Higher Education. Governor Pat Quinn will present Roosevelt University with the Governor’s Sustainability Award on October 29.
Roosevelt received this distinct honor for its ongoing commitment to sustainability as demonstrated by meeting the Compact’s goals required to earn silver: 1) fostered student involvement in guiding sustainability efforts, 2) set measurable sustainability goals and targets along a time frame, 3) established a system to monitor and assess progress, and 4) implemented at least three sustainability best practices.
The University is on track to pursue gold level recognition by 2015.
Special credit goes to Paul Matthews, Asst Vice President Campus Planning and Operations, Tom Shelton, Sustainability Coordinator, and Mary Beth Radeck, Sustainability Associate and Sustainability Major, for putting together the comprehensive application to the Governor’s office this fall.
